Practical information

A calm starting point for your question.

The answers below are intentionally concise. Where the possibilities depend on a date, venue or personal learning goal, a brief conversation comes first.

01

General

About Silvan, his work and where to listen.

Who is Silvan de Smit?

Silvan de Smit is a Dutch classical guitarist, composer and guitar teacher. He earned his master’s degree in classical guitar at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and combines performing with a daily teaching practice. Read more on the About page.

Where can I watch and hear Silvan perform?

The video page currently focuses on carefully recorded studio films. Concert recordings will be added to the selection later.

Can I ask a question that is not answered here?

Yes. Use the contact page for a general question. For live music, the form on the booking page provides the most useful starting information.

02

Performances and bookings

From an initial idea to a personally coordinated musical setting.

What kinds of occasions can include live guitar music?

Silvan performs classical and acoustic guitar music for recitals, interludes, events and weddings. The precise role of the music is coordinated around the occasion, venue and chosen moment.

What is the difference between a recital, an interlude and background music?

A recital centres on the programme and the listening experience. An interlude is a defined musical moment within a gathering or ceremony. Background music supports the occasion without continuously demanding attention.

Is an enquiry already a confirmed booking?

No. An enquiry through the website is non-binding. Availability, musical content and further arrangements are confirmed personally first.

What information should I include in an enquiry?

The date, venue and type of occasion are the starting point. Please also describe the musical role you have in mind, such as a recital, ceremonial moment, interlude or background music.

How is the repertoire selected?

The repertoire is discussed in relation to the occasion, the room and the desired musical character. If you have a specific piece or direction in mind, mention it in your enquiry; the possibilities will be coordinated personally.

Is amplification always required?

That depends on the room, audience size and the role of the music. The technical situation is discussed in advance so that the appropriate setup is clear.

How long does a performance last?

There is no single duration for every situation. The length and structure are coordinated around the occasion and then recorded in the proposal.

03

Guitar lessons

Practical answers about level, location, lesson length and approach.

Who are the guitar lessons for?

There are routes for beginners, advanced players and adults who are starting or returning after a break. The starting point is matched to experience, goals and available practice time.

Where do lessons take place?

In-person one-to-one lessons take place on the first floor at A. van Leeuwenhoekweg 36A11 in Alphen aan den Rijn. A separate route is available for online guitar lessons.

What do we work on during a lesson?

Depending on your question, lessons can address technique, tone, rhythm, interpretation and repertoire. A musical or technical issue is reduced to a clear practice step and a focused listening point for home.

Which lesson length is suitable for me?

Lessons are available in 20, 30 and 60-minute formats. The suitable length depends on experience, concentration, repertoire and the amount of explanation and playing time required.

How can I get started with lessons?

Briefly describe your experience, what you would like to play and what you currently find difficult. Availability and the appropriate next step are confirmed personally before you make a choice. See the guitar lessons page.

04

Videos and contact

Listen, ask a question or choose the appropriate next step.

Are studio films and concert recordings available?

The current video selection focuses primarily on high-quality studio films. Concert recordings will be added later, so the type of recording always remains clear.

Which contact route should I use?

Use Booking for a non-binding live-music enquiry, Guitar lessons for tuition and Contact for other questions.
